PGSD Frequently Asked Questions

Web Page Design and Build

Q1:   Your web page designs are superb.  How do you do it?

We source designs from some of the world's leading designers and adapt these to your requirements.

Q2:   Doesn't this make my web site development more expensive?

Absolutely not!  In fact it makes your web site development considerably cheaper because we do not have to spend lots of our time and your money developing complex HTML code to your specific requirements.

Q3:   Doesn't this mean I end up with someone else's web page design?

No, for the same reason that there are no two houses in the world exactly the same.  We start off with a basic design and modify it to your requirements.

Q4:   OK, so it reduces the cost.  By how much?

Typically we find the total cost of the web page design and development is cut to less than a half and possibly as much as a quarter the cost  of our competitors using more traditional approaches to web page design and development.

Q5:   What other benefits are available to me as a result of this approach?

Well, the main one is that we can show you a range of designs before we incur any significant costs.  Just tell us about your needs and any ideas you may have for a web site and we'll put together a range of designs that we feel will best meet your needs.  You then choose the design that you like the best.

Q6:   So what products do you use for  web page development?

Our main tool is currently Microsoft Front Page 2002.

Q7:   Do you host the web sites that you develop?

No, we're not in this line of business.  Web hosting is a specialised and competitive business.  We seek out the best deals that will best meet your needs and budget and advise you accordingly.

Q8:   Can you develop e-commerce web solutions?

Yes.  E-commerce solutions involve more complexity and specialised skills and pose different hosting considerations.  We will gladly work through these issues with you in more detailed discussions.

Windows Application Development

Q9:   What about your Windows application development services?

Certainly, what would you like to know?

Q10:  What benefits do I obtain from using your services?

Our extensive experience and use of productivity enhancing development tools mean that we can develop Windows solutions to a professional standard at extremely competitive prices.

Q11:  So what is your main development tool?

We use Alpha Five version 5 from Alpha Software Corporation.

Q12:  Where can I find out more about Alpha Five?

Visit the Alpha Five web site at www.alphasoftware.com.

Q13:  Can you develop my application using Microsoft Access?

Yes, but we prefer not to because we achieve a productivity improvement using Alpha Five that we cannot achieve using Access.  This translates into a cost saving for you.

Q14:  How much will this save me?

It may well cut the cost of your development by a factor of half or more.

Q15:  What types of applications can you develop?

Any application for the Microsoft Windows environment intended to run on a single user personal computer or multi-user PC local area network.  Up to ten or twenty simultaneous users can be readily supported, possibly more depending on the design and capacity of your PCs and network.

Q16:  Wouldn't it be cheaper for me to buy a ready-made application?

Absolutely.  If there is already a product out there that will meet your needs then this may very well be a cheaper alternative for you.  We can also help you to locate such a product and evaluate it against your needs.  Contact us for further advice and we will be pleased to assist.

Business Reports Creation

Q17:  I want to analyse my business data more effectively.  How can you help?

That's exactly what we do.  We have many years of experience designing and developing business reports to produce information that you need to run your business.

Q18:  How do you do this?

Using our expertise and a range of leading products for the Microsoft Windows environment we can build for you reports and reporting applications that analyse your data and produce the information you are after.  Alternatively, we can provide the training you need so that you can do this yourself.

Q19:  What sort of reports can you create?

Absolutely anything and everything.  From straight forward customer lists and detailed sales and stock-on-hand analyses to fully customised reports that allow you to select particular date ranges, customers and branches immediately before you run the report.

Q20:  What products do you use for reporting?

We have a range of options available including R&R Report Writer and Alpha Five.  Crystal Reports is another option.  We help you to choose a solution that best matches your needs.

Q21:  Can you report from my data?

Most likely yes.  If we can get your data into any one of the standard formats supported in the Microsoft Windows environment, we will be able to report from it.  We can use the ODBC standard (open database connectivity) to access many formats.  For example, the dBASE format is particularly easy to work with.

Q22:  That sounds like exactly what I am after.  What next?

Just contact us at the email address above outlining what you have in mind and we'll take it from there.

Your question is not here?

Just email it to us and we'll get back to you.
